It's Alberta Culture Days, and throughout September, we would like to celebrate it here and around Red Deer's backyard. So, check out some of the fantastic events taking place this month as we showcase our artists, art organizations and cultural industries.

To kick off the month, join the City of Red Deer for the new annual Meet the Street Arts & Cultural Festival happening in downtown Red Deer Friday, September 3 – 5. There will be live entertainment, a street art fair, Bizarre Bazaar artisan market, community pop-up activities, and so much more. Take in the celebration of new lights, speakers and murals, situated throughout the downtown or listen to our great musicians like Young Howler or Jazz at the Lake Trio as they entertain us with a range of music from Jazz to Rock. It's First Friday, September 3!  Why not join the galleries in downtown Red Deer in celebration of our local, regional, and national artistic talent. The Red Deer Museum & Art Gallery gives us a first look at the travelling exhibition World War Women developed by the Canadian War Museum from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm. Or maybe head over to the Marjorie Wood Gallery at the Kerry Wood Nature Centre for The Nature of trees; artist Lynn Lecorre will be in attendance from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. You might want to take in the group exhibition at the Heron's Nest or perhaps Live Colorfully with artist Julia Roth at the Velvet Olive Lounge from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. These are just a few openings happening, so make sure you check out the Red Deer Councils website for all their First Friday events.

The Red Deer Arts Council and the Central Alberta Retired Teachers’ Association present an exhibition of original artwork in downtown store fronts for the whole month of September  in celebration of Alberta Culture Days. Check out the map of art exhibit locations throughout the heart of the city to enjoy any time of the day by going to Red Deer Culture Days Glass Front Gallery.

OpenStory at Capstone is an interactive art experience happening from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm till September 6. Make sure you visit all the doors across Capstone and downtown Red Deer to enjoy the OpenStory experience. This is their final weekend so check out the different events going on from Spandy Andy to mixed media art workshops and so much more.

Join the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, September 18, to showcase family fun, sport, and culture in celebrating Alberta Culture Days, sponsored by the Government of Alberta. The event will include appearances by the Alberta Indigenous Games Representatives, Association Canadienne Francaise de l'Alberta Régionale de Red Deer, the Hungry Beast Food Truck, and so much more. Events get underway at 10:00 am and wrap up at 4:00 pm.

The Westerner is hosting a uniquely western Cowboy Kicks fundraising experience that combines elements of rodeo with an Albertan artisan twist Saturday, September 18. Through an exciting live auction, six packages featuring one-of-a-kind experiences and 4-foot high fibreglass cowboy boots, hand-painted by Albertan artists, will be auctioned off. There will also be 2-foot high, hand-painted fibreglass boots featured in the charity auction and a raffle. Guests will be treated to a hearty, western meal and beverage while enjoying an intimate performance from special guest Brett Kissel. Tickets are limited and can be purchased by going to Tickets Alberta.

CulinArt is happening in the Town of Sylvan Lake, Friday, September 10, starting at 6:00 pm. The downtown restaurants will show their best bites and small sips for this trendy culinary and visual art walk experience. Tickets can be purchased online by going to the NexSource Centre or from the event boot at the Sylvan lake Pier.

A whole month of activities will be taking place in Blackfalds for the Alberta Culture Days, from an information Expo to drive-in movies, to youth art and finishing off with fireworks set to music in All-Star Park on September 25. Check out their event calendar and find something that inspires you to get out and celebrate.

Lacombe & District Historical Society hosts their Prairie Fibre Festival at the Lacombe Memorial Centre September 11 - 12. Gather in Lacombe and enjoy the vendor hall full of fibre fun as well as classes and demonstrations.
